Edward is a member of the Council of Elders, the ruling body of the preternaturals. But he has his own agenda for retaining his seat on the council. Born a mute, he communicates through a young boy he purchased as a slave from his impoverished parents. Edward counts on people underestimating him. Because he is mute, many have made the mistake of thinking he was ignorant as well.
